RUTA N-VI in 5 days

Day 1: Madrid – Tordesillas. From Km 0 to 179

The adventure begins!

Explore Madrid’s city center on foot, take your starting photo at the «Km 0» plaque in Puerta del Sol and hit the road! You will climb the first mountain pass of the N-VI, Guadarrama (don’t miss the photo at the milestone separating the provinces of Madrid and Segovia) and continue through the provinces of Segovia, Ávila and Valladolid until you stop for the night by the Duero River in Tordesillas.

From Adanero to Benavente, the A6 highway has replaced the old N- VI. Take every highway exit to find the original stretches of the historic road (in Tordesillas, it’s the one crossing the bridge over the Duero river—don’t miss it!).

Day 2: Tordesillas – La Bañeza. From Km 179 to 300

We’ve reached the halfway point!

Enjoy the long Castilian straights and take a 15-minute detour todiscover magical villages like Urueña, the «Villa del Libro» (Book Village) or Tiedra with its lavender fields.

You’ll leave Valladolid behind to enter the province of Zamora and reach León, where the landscape changes once again and the earth turns red. Discover solitary stretches of the historic N-VI in Cerecinos de Campos and incredible natural areas like the Villafáfila Lagoons. In the province of Zamora, near Benavente, the original N-VI reappears to lead you all the way to the finish line!

Day 3: La Bañeza – Ponferrada. From Km 300 to 388

Welcome to El Bierzo on the road!

The landscape changes once again, becoming greener with every mile.

But before you reach the natural wonders of Las Médulas with its reddish earth, you can enjoy incredible gastronomy in Astorga—don’t miss its famous mantecadas (sweet cakes) or the traditional cocido maragato stew.

Next up is the second mountain pass on the route: El Manzanal, at an altitude of 1,225m, which marks your entrance into the El Bierzo region. Enjoy the scenery, the winding roads and the excellent local food!

Day 4: Ponferrada – Guitiriz. From Km 388 to 539

Galicia awaits!

Explore Villafranca del Bierzo and enter Galicia through the final mountain pass of the journey: Pedrafita do Cebreiro.

Discover the Church of the Holy Grail in O Cebreiro, climb a winding road for spectacular views of the Ancares, and enjoy the lush nature along the abandoned stretch of Becerreá -featuring several historical milestones- until you reach Guitiriz, the last town in the province of Lugo on the route.

Day 5: Guitiriz – A Coruña. From Km 539 to 600

Finally, the finish line!

Descend toward sea level on the final stretch of the route through the province of A Coruña. Discover natural areas between rivers, the historic road layout with several ancient milestones in Betanzos, a castle in the middle of the sea in Oleiros and finally, the Atlantic at your feet as you reach the Tower of Hercules. Explore the cultural life, leisure and beaches of A Coruña and celebrate your arrival at the finish line!
